At the 1980 Geneva Motor Show Audi introduced the world to the Quattro, solidifying the marque’s status as a purveyor of some of the most capable cars on earth and kicking off a series of iconic rally cars. And with 2020 marking four decades since the watershed model’s initial release, the German brand is celebrating the occasion via the release of the ultra-exclusive “TT RS 40 years of Quattro.”
Powering the TT RS 40 years of Quattro is Audi’s International Engine of the Year Award-winning 2.5 TFSI inline-five, which puts down 394hp and 354ft-lbs. In addition to being able to clock 3.7-second 0-60mph runs, the special edition model’s electronically limited top speed has been raised to around 175mph. Cloaked in an Alpine White paint scheme inspired by the livery on Walter Röhrl’s 1987 Pikes Peak-winning Sport Quattro S1, this elite Audi also sports a full wind-tunnel-tested aero kit, a massive competitor-style rear wing, a custom hood, and numerous carbon fiber bits, a Nappa leather and Alcantara-clad interior, and an optional carbon-fiber rear strut brace that occupies the back seat area, adding a healthy dose of lightness and rigidity. Exclusively available in the German market, only 40 specimens are being produced in total, each of which carries a price tag of at least $133,500.
